Volunteer Coordinator (Full Time)
Definition:
Lifelong Thrift is a non-profit thrift store that raises funds for Lifelong, through selling donated goods and accepting monetary donations from the public.
Lifelong is the leading community health organization serving people with chronic diseases, including HIV/AIDS in Washington State.
Job Description:
The Volunteer Coordinator/Lead is responsible for the recruitment, scheduling, training, supervising/accountability, retention, and recognition of volunteers in the store. Occasionally this will extend to helping Lifelong’s Volunteer Coordinator during special events, or when needed. This will be 50-60% of the position. The other 40-50% that the VC will be required to do is be an in-charge and back up as needed for the supervisor team. This includes opening/closing the store, training, giving positive and constructive feedback to staff, or special projects. Above all, the Volunteer Coordinator must support the mission of Lifelong and our commitment to our clients and community.
The Volunteer Coordinator reports to the Assistant Manager.
This is a full time, non-exempt, regular position. All new hires will be subject to a probation period, that does not change the At-Will status of the employee for the duration of their employment.

- Recruit, train, schedule, and manage volunteers. Creates a positive experience for volunteers.
- Train staff to work effectively and cooperatively with volunteers
- Orient volunteers to increase their understanding of the organization, its clients, its services and the role and responsibilities of volunteers.
- Ensure that volunteer check-in procedures are followed and records of volunteer hours are maintained according to established procedures
- Ensure that volunteers receive the appropriate level of supervision during the scheduled work week, and following up with other supervisors during absence.
- Assist with conflict resolution among clients, customers, staff and volunteers according to established procedures
- Collaborate with the Assistant Manager to develop and implement strategic methods for recruitment, recognition, and retention of volunteers and planning for future growth.
- Maintain and update communication and contents on community recruitment sites. Identify opportunities to promote volunteer program through photo opportunities and capturing personal stories for Lifelong Thrift or Lifelong.
- Opens/closes the store as scheduled. Acts as In-Charge when scheduled or needed. Gives feedback to staff on job performance. Delegates and follows up with tasks. Oversees register shifts and counts tills. Maintains physical plant, monitors store safety, reports safety issues, and enforces store cleanliness policies.
- Assists Sales Floor Lead with merchandising as needed

Qualifications:
- Possess at least a High School Diploma, Volunteer Coordinator certificate preferred
- Two or more years of retail or resale experience
- Ability to pass background check
- Exhibits excellent customer service skills
- Detail oriented with a high level of accuracy
- Possess and understanding of professional boundaries
- Proven ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment
- Ability to respond quickly to change
- Ability to be standing or walking for up to 8 hours when on the sales floor
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively under stressful conditions
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and walk up and down stairs
- Ability to work a flexible schedule that will include evenings and weekends
- Ability to work with people from a diverse array of backgrounds and experiences.
- Knowledge of Lifelong’s history and mission
- Experience with data processing, volunteer software preferred
- Must own or have access to a working cell phone
